Adding caramelized onion to this traditional burger is over-the-top easy and delicious! The perfect way to whip up a weeknight dinner that the whole family will enjoy!
1tsppure maple syrup(or you can use brown sugar, if desired)
1tspbalsamic vinegar
salt and pepper
Instructions
To make the caramelized onions:
In a large skillet over medium heat, heat butter and olive oil.
Add onion, salt, pepper and bay leaf. Saute for 30 minutes or until onions are caramelized, stirring occasionally.
Turn heat off and put lid on skillet to keep warm until ready to serve.
To make the burgers:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt and pepper. Using two forks or clean hands, mix until combined.
Divide meat mixture into 12 equal portions (I use a ½ cup measuring spoon) and form into patties. Press your thumb in center of each patty to ensure even grilling.
Grill on medium-high heat for about 5 minutes on each side. At the end of grilling time, add sliced cheese on top of burger patties.
Serve with buns and top generously with caramelized onions and fresh arugula. Enjoy!
Notes
Note: I use pure maple syrup as a sweetener in my recipes, as we try to avoid processed sugar.
