Maryland Crab Dip

Maryland blue crab is is iconic around here. Crab cakes, crab dip, and a pile of steamed crabs on butcher paper with mallets, is a local experience and expectation every summer.

This recipe is as authentic as it gets. Made with jumbo lump crab meat, it’s warm and cheesy, and seasoned with none other than Maryland’s most well-known flavor…Old Bay Seasoning.

I found my crab meat at my local Whole Foods…

And if you can’t find Old Bay seasoning at your local store, Amazon carries it…

Marylanders put this seasoning on all things seafood…crabs, crab dip, steamed shrimp, we even dip fries in it, because why not?

You’ll even find chips and crackers with Old Bay seasoning. I had never heard of it until I moved to Maryland, but it’s tradition here on the east coast.

Serve this Maryland Crab Dip as an appetizer at your next party or family gathering!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz crab meat
  • 2 tbsp mayo
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning (seasoning includes salt)
  • ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup sour cream

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix all of the ingredients except for the crab meat and a handful of the shredded cheese (will use later for topping). Stir until well combined.
  • Fold the crab meat in gently, try not to break up crab lumps.
  • Pour mixture into a 9 inch pie dish.
  • Top with remaining cheese, or more if desired. Lightly sprinkle Old Bay seasoning on top of the dip.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or util brown and bubbly.
  • Serve with crackers, toasted baguette, pretzel baguette, or tortilla chips.

Notes

I would not recommend using imitation crab meat for this recipe. Lump crab meat or jumbo lump crab meat is preferred to keep it authentic to Maryland crab dip.
You can find Old Bay seasoning on amazon, if your local grocery store does not carry.
