Fun for Life Mama | Shan Grossman

Life Lately | January 2025

I thought I’d share a little bit of our life lately over here.

We had our first snow for the winter (the most we’ve had in three years!) and 5 days of cancelled school due to snow and freezing temps earlier this month. Therefore turning the kids’ Christmas Break into three weeks long instead of two. It’s been so fun to play, cozy up, and drink a year’s worth of hot cocoa in a month’s time!

Naturally, with all that snow, the kids were outside with the tube tied to the back of our four-wheeler and sledding all over the property. No injuries to report, but our hot dog tube did pop after all of their shenanigans!

The girls are both doing a winter sport for high school, and after two weeks off for Christmas break and then having a week of meet’s cancelled due to the polar vortex, they were ready to get back into the swing of things!

Alexia is in her third year of high school winter swim and is one of the captains for her team.

It’s an end of the era of me driving my girls to and from school and practices. While I miss all of those conversations that happened within my car, it has been nice to not be driving all over town multiple times a day. Alexia is the most excited to have her license so that she can be on time to school, now not having to wait on her brothers (or me) to get out the door in time!

After swimming for the high school her freshman year, and even qualifying for States, Naiya hung up her hat with her swim career and chose to run winter indoor track for the first time. She fell in love outdoor track last spring, and has set many goals for herself with 55m hurdles, 55m dash, and is also learning pole vault. This girl has been on a steady rate of setting new PR’s each week. The only downside to this sport is that their meets are once a week at the only indoor track in our area, which is about two hours away. So it makes for a long drive for us parents and a long night for these track kiddos!

On one particular day I needed to get out for some fresh (cold) air, so I took Hazel out for a walk. I looked at the weather and it was in the twenties!

Oh my goodness, it was cold! There were moments I considered if I should turn around, but chose not to. But seriously, 20 degrees is cold.

We celebrated our beautiful nieces’ 4th and 12th birthdays! They are the bookends of their family and have the exact same birthday, what are the odds?! A little last minute family cake and ice cream to celebrate these sweet girls.

We have multiple heating and cooling systems throughout our house. It is an old farmhouse originally built in 1866, but has been added onto a few times by the previous owners. On the original farmhouse side, we had a wood stove installed when we moved in. It keeps that side of the house incredibly warm and we spend most of the winter months here. Now that our kids are older, they’re in charge of going out to the barn and getting wood throughout the week. They also are great about keeping the stove going.

We’re gearing up for Super Bowl LIX, and what I’m most excited about are all the appetizers! If you’re needing to whip up some fun finger foods, you should try my…

CRAB DIP

That’s a little life lately at the Grossman house. Have a great weekend! xoxo
